What families have shared with us

CY
Chen Yu-Hsuan Zhongzheng District, Taipei

My mother had a fall last summer and we were not prepared for how quickly things needed to change. Gentleoak helped us organise everything within a week. The coordination was thorough and the aide they placed β€” well, my mother actually looks forward to her visits now, which I was not expecting at all.

My father is quite private and does not take easily to new people. The team at Gentleoak were patient about the matching process β€” they asked a lot of questions before making a recommendation. Three months in, my father and his aide have a genuine rapport. The wellness notes are genuinely useful, too.

We live in Australia and managing care for my grandmother from a distance was causing our family a lot of anxiety. The Coordination Package has been a genuine relief. There is someone in Taipei who knows my grandmother, responds quickly when I send a message, and handles everything I cannot do from here.

After a few weeks of live-in care, my mother seems more settled than she has been in years. The aide is kind, consistent, and has made herself genuinely at home in a way that does not feel intrusive. We receive a short summary every week and I have never had to chase for information.

What I appreciated was that they took time to understand my father as a person β€” his habits, his preferences, his sense of humour. The first aide was not quite the right match, and they arranged a change within a fortnight without any fuss. That level of responsiveness matters a great deal.

Transitioning from occasional visits to live-in care when my grandmother's condition changed was something I expected to be complicated. Gentleoak managed the whole process smoothly. We did not have to explain the situation from scratch to a new team β€” they already understood the history.

Care Stories

Three families, three different situations

Case 01 β€” Wellness Visits

The situation

A 78-year-old man in Neihu had become increasingly sedentary following a minor health scare. His daughter, who works full-time, was concerned about his declining mobility and growing isolation.

What we arranged

Three Wellness Visits per week, with a focus on gentle walking, light stretching, and structured conversation. The aide was selected partly for his patience and calm manner.

Four months on

His daughter reports his mood has noticeably improved and he has resumed short walks to the nearby park independently. His aide's notes have helped track patterns that the family then discussed with his doctor.

Case 02 β€” Coordination

The situation

A family with three adult children β€” one in Taipei, one in Kaohsiung, one in Japan β€” needed to organise professional home care for their 84-year-old mother following a hospital discharge. Nobody had time to manage it alone.

What we arranged

A Coordination Package covering aide sourcing, daily scheduling, hospital follow-up liaison, and weekly updates shared by email with all three siblings simultaneously.

Six months on

All three children describe the arrangement as having removed the primary source of family tension. Their mother is well-supported, and decisions are no longer falling on any one person.

Case 03 β€” Live-In Care

The situation

An 89-year-old woman with moderate cognitive decline was no longer able to manage nights safely alone. Her son was opposed to residential care and wanted his mother to remain in the family home.

What we arranged

Full live-in care with a female aide who had prior experience supporting seniors with cognitive changes. A written daily structure was established in close consultation with the family.

Eight months on

The arrangement has continued without a change of aide. His mother has settled into a consistent routine. The son reports that being able to visit her at home, rather than in a facility, has been deeply meaningful to both of them.
